Bürgermeisterloch translates to mayor's hole, a gate in the Möchsberg fortifications ordered by mayor Heinrich Ritter von Mertens 1863. The mayor went to work through the gate, so later on people called it mayor's hole.
I always tell my visitors the name comes from the citizens rolling down the mayor as a last resort of defense, because he naturally used to be the plumpest among them.
