Nganga Kalunga
Nganga Kalunga is a woman who carries her power like a mantle of quiet thunder.

Tall, dignified, and wrapped in the deep earth tones of her BaKongo lineage, she steps into any room with the calm authority of someone who has walked between worlds and returned with her soul intact. Her black dress, richly embroidered in vibrant red, gold, and indigo, marks her as healer, diviner, and spiritual gatekeeper. Beaded necklaces drape her shoulders in layers, each strand a story, a lineage, a pact with the unseen.
Her presence is warm, motherly, and grounding - yet beneath that warmth lies iron. Not the polished steel of European sorcery, but the black iron of the hearth and the forge: practical, ancient, indestructible. The kind of strength that does not need to roar.
Kalunga speaks little, but when she does, her words land with the weight of rivers. Her voice is low and resonant, shaped by chants older than colonial empires and unbroken by the centuries of suffering her people endured. She carries a leather satchel filled with minkisi - spirit vessels, charms, bones, medicines - and a pelt-draped ritual bag whose contents clink softly with the promise of dangerous truths.
Her main spiritual ally, Mpemba Nfinda, is never far: a towering ancestral nganga whose white clay-painted face and spiral markings flicker at the edge of vision when Kalunga calls upon her guidance. Together, they weave protective wards, bindings, and ancestral magic drawn from the deep well of the land and its dead.
Despite her formidable power, Kalunga’s most disarming trait is her kindness. The patience in her eyes. The quiet, amused smile she gives to Miloš’s grumbling. The respect she shows Hadrian. The instinctive understanding she offers Grace, recognizing the young woman’s scars before a word is spoken. She judges no one, but she sees everyone.
She is the last ally to arrive, coming from her remote village in the DRC - yet when she enters the war room, the entire group breathes easier. With her, they feel the presence of something older than any European order, older than the Vatican’s hunters, older even than Anrun itself.
A woman who knows death intimately but is never ruled by it.
A protector, a bridge between worlds, and a force of unshakable will.
Nganga Kalunga is not simply an ally.
She is the grounding soul of the coming storm.
